FAQ

Frequently asked questions and our answers

Can I make a reservation?

Reservations are generally accepted online for a minimum of 5 nights using our booking form on the website. This allows us to have all the necessary information and send you the details for the deposit. During July, August, and over winter holidays, reservations require a minimum of 7 nights. Reservations for Easter, Ascension, Pentecost, and Corpus Christi can be made for a minimum of 3 nights.

Shorter stays are not a problem, simply call one or two days in advance to inquire about availability.

One thing to note: we never fully book the campground in advance. This allows our guests to enjoy the freedom of extending their stay spontaneously, allowing last-minute arrivals without a reservation, and staying for one, two, five, or nine nights, depending on their needs. However, during peak season, it can be fully booked early in the day.

Is there a minimum stay requirement?

The minimum stay requirement only applies to advanced reservations. For spontaneous and short-term inquiries without a reservation, there is no minimum stay requirement.

Are there always places available for tents?

There are usually places available for small tents. However, on weekends and during peak season, it is recommended to arrive early as it can be fully booked soon. Those traveling on foot should call us on the day of arrival, so we can reserve a spot.

Can I cancel or modify my reservation at short notice?

Our reservation policy can be found at: https://www.camping-kandersteg.ch/bestimmungen/

Can I arrive in the morning?

The site can be occupied from 2:00 PM. By arrangement, it is possible to arrive between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. If the site is not yet available, the vehicle can be parked free of charge. If we have a phone number, we can call as soon as the site is ready.

Can I check out later than 11:00 AM?

We kindly ask that the bill be settled by 10:00 AM on the day of departure and the site be vacated by 11:00 AM. A later departure is only possible by arrangement. For a fee, the vehicle can be parked in our parking lot until 6:00 PM on the day of departure.

Can I arrive after 6:00 PM?

Arriving after 6:00 PM is possible in exceptional cases by arrangement, up to 8:00 PM max.

Is it possible to arrive without a reservation?

Spontaneous arrivals are possible during the summer season (May to October). However, during peak season and on weekends, it is recommended to arrive early.

When should I settle the bill?

During the summer months, payment can be made during the stay, on the day before departure, or on the day of departure, whichever is most convenient. In the autumn, winter, and spring, the bill is settled on the day of departure, as we take into account electricity consumption. Any deposit will be credited towards the final bill after the reservation fee is deducted.

Payment can be made in cash with Swiss Francs. But also with postcard, debit and creditcards. For smaller amounts, it is advisable to have cash on hand.

Can I order bread?

Fresh bread from one of the region's best bakers can be ordered at the reception.

Is there a restaurant?

The Rendez-vous restaurant is located directly next to the campsite. https://www.restaurant-rendezvous.ch

Can I barbecue?

Grilling, whether with a charcoal or gas grill, is generally allowed. However, the grill must be high enough above the grass. It would be a shame if the grass suffered or was burned. Please do not use disposable grills. Our "Finel" has a grill area for charcoal barbecues. Open fires are not permitted throughout the campsite or in the "Finel".

Why am I not allowed to lay down foil on the ground?

At our location 1200 meters above sea level, the grass is more sensitive and takes a long time to recover after being damaged. For this reason, no foil or airtight mats are allowed to be laid on the pitches. Instead, air-permeable tent carpets can be used. (Aerotex)

Is there electricity everywhere? What type of plug do I need?

Electricity is available on all of our pitches. For tent pitches, you usually need a longer cable (at least 30m). An adapter that fits Swiss plugs is required, which we can provide if needed. Mobile phones and power banks can be charged for free at the reception.

Is there Wi-Fi?

We offer free Wi-Fi access, but the reception may vary depending on the device used or the location on the campsite.

Are dogs allowed?

Our furry friends are allowed, but they must always be kept on a leash and do their business outside the pitch. Dog fences or similar items are not permitted.

Can I park my car on my pitch?

For organizational reasons, cars must be parked on our parking terrace or on the parking lots belonging to the campsite. However, vehicles are allowed to drive up to the pitch for loading and unloading.

Are visitors allowed?

Visitors are allowed but must be registered. If they stay overnight, the regular person rate and tourist tax will be charged.

Why do we charge for showers?

Water is a precious resource, and we want to conserve the environment with your help. To minimize consumption and use water sparingly, we charge CHF 1.00 for 3 minutes of showering. Additionally, this leads to less time-consuming showers and less waiting time during peak season. Therefore, we believe that charging for showers helps to save water and increase comfort.

Why do I have to pay tourist tax?

In Kandersteg, all adults and children aged 6 years and older are subject to tourist tax. Children from 0 to 5 years are exempt from tourist tax. This levy benefits guests. The revenue from tourist tax is used directly by the municipality to enhance tourist services. For more information, please visit https://kandersteg.ch/de/kurtaxen/. As a thank you, guests receive a guest card that provides free access to public transportation in the region, discounts on all cable cars, and many other benefits. For more information on the benefits of the guest card, please visit https://meine-berge.ch/de/vorteile-gaestekarte/.

Are there rental properties?

We do not offer rental properties such as bungalows, rental tents, or similar accommodations.

Winter

Why are snow chains needed in winter?

The access road to the campsite is usually covered in snow during winter. To reach the pitches, you have to cross the ski slope on the campsite. (We have Ski in - ski out). Depending on the conditions, snow chains may not be necessary, but it's important to have them with you.

Do I need to make a reservation in advance during winter?

During winter, you can put on your skis directly at the campsite. Some of our pitches turn into the ski slope during winter, and many of them are occupied by winter season guests. As a result, we only have a few spots for passersby. That's why making a reservation in advance during winter is absolutely necessary, so we also can provide information about arrival and road conditions.

Do you have a ski room?

We have a ski room on the campsite, but it's not heated. However, there's a room with ski locker storage at the gondola station for the Oeschinensee ski area (50 meters from the campsite), which is heated. This way, you can comfortably put on your ski equipment in a heated room.

Are the sanitary facilities heated?

Our sanitary facilities are cozy and warm during winter.

Why is the grey water disposal station closed during winter?

All outdoor pipes are turned off due to frost during winter. During winter, manual labor is required, and grey, black, and clean water is carried by hand to the indoor disposal station (or pulled on a sled). Clean water should not be poured onto the pitch. An ice rink can form on the pitch quickly, which is neither practical nor pleasant for the next guest, and there's a risk of slipping.
